Andy Griffith's Death

Andy Griffith's death is just another example of the ups and downs of Ebay sales. Looking at the completed listings for anything Andy Griffith, you can see there is quite a lot of selling going on.  Sales such as this usually spike shortly after the person's death and then trickle off about 6 months later.

What's really interesting is this DVD set.  Although you can buy it on Amazon starting at around $95, a lot of folks are buying it on Ebay.  A DVD set such as this one could easily be found tucked away at a thrift store or garage sale.

For those of you who would like a little history lesson, here is some information about the Andy Griffith show courtesy of Wikipedia.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Andy Griffith Show (1960–1968)

Beginning in 1960, Griffith starred as Sheriff Andy Taylor in The Andy Griffith Show for CBS.  The show took place in the fictional town of Mayberry, North Carolina, where Taylor, a widower, was the sheriff and town sage. The show was filmed at Desilu Studios, with exteriors filmed at Forty Acres in Culver City, California.

From 1960 to 1965, the show co-starred character actor and comedian — and Griffith's longtime friend —  Don Knotts in the role of Deputy Barney Fife. Taylor's best friend and partner. He was also Taylor's cousin in the show. In the series premiere episode, in a conversation between the two, Fife calls Taylor "Cousin Andy", and Taylor calls Fife "Cousin Barney". The show also starred child actor Ron Howard (then known as Ronny Howard), who played Taylor's only child, Opie Taylor.

It was an immediate hit. Although Griffith never received a writing credit for the show, he worked on the development of every script. While Knotts was frequently lauded and won multiple Emmy Awards for his comedic performances (as did Frances Bavier in 1967), Griffith was never nominated for an Emmy Award during the show's run.

In 1967, Griffith was under contract with CBS to do one more season of the show. However, he decided to quit the show to pursue a movie career and other projects. The series continued as Mayberry R.F.D., with Ken Berry starring as a widower farmer and many of the regular characters recurring, some regularly and some as guest appearances. Griffith served as executive producer (according to Griffith, he came in once a week to review the week's scripts and give input) and guest starred in five episodes (the pilot episode involved his marriage to Helen Crump.  He made final appearances as Taylor in the 1986 reunion television film, Return to Mayberry, and in two reunion specials in 1993 and 2003 with strong ratings.

Finding Things to Sell on Ebay

I recently came across some good articles about finding merchandise to sell on Ebay.  It's really got me thinking that perhaps I should branch out from the garage sales and thrift stores.

Anyone have any luck with some of the suggestions made in these articles?

Fireball Island

Wow!  A very profitable game to sell!

Created in 1986, this game can sometimes sell for over $200.

Game is by Milton Bradley.  Be sure to check that you have all the pieces.  However, you can see on Ebay that some of the parts sell for $10-$20 each.

Recipe for Success - Selling on Amazon

Many Ebay sellers have moved to selling on Amazon.  I'm hearing great things from the other loops I'm on.

This way of selling is known as "Amazon FBA".

What is Fulfillment by Amazon  or FBA you ask?  It’s a system that allows you to store your products in Amazon’s fulfillment centers.  Then Amazon packs, ships, and provides customer service for those products.

This particular ebook was written by some very successful Ebay sellers.

Check it out!

Vintage Speak & Spell Electronic Toy

I actually found one of these at a garage sale once and paid $2 for it. It wasn’t in mint condition so I only got $21.57. Be sure to test it and say you “tested” it in your listing.

Remington Tight Curls BLUE Hot Rollers

These are highly sought out for those who have little girls in beauty pageants.  This particular brand, color and “tight curls” feature sells for the most money.

Loopin' Louie by Milton Bradley or Hasbro

This game used to sell for an easy $100 on Ebay.  It seems Hasbro has brought it back, but it's still a pricey kids game.  Amazon sells it new for $49.  Toys R Us doesn't seem to carry it in the U.S.  I did Google it and found this game distributor called Funagain distributing it for $46.

The point is, you can usually pick up board games for a couple of bucks at garage sales.  According to Ebay, it's still a profitable game to sell.

TIP:  Watch the video below so you can see the pieces this game should come with.  However, I would still buy it if it was incomplete.  Just selling the parts of this game, still would be a good return on your investment.

If you have never played or seen this game, then you can watch a bit of this You Tube video below (adorable little boy).

Bumbo Baby Seat

Bumbo Seat

This soft foam seat is easy to clean and allows a baby to sit up.  It can usually be found at garage sales for a few dollars.  “Very good to excellent” condition on Ebay always means more bidders.  So be sure to check the seat carefully for cracks in the foam and stains.

Purple use to be the most popular color, but other customer favorites have emerged.  Just click here and see what these "'used" seats are selling for.

NOTE:  Having the tray will bring in even more money.
